Brazil is always surprising me. While browsing a local site about free
software I noticed this headline, which promptly brought up my
attention.
IMHO, this was a very wise move and only contributes to further
improve Brazil’s image of emerging free software icon.

Brazil and the Creative Commons
One interesting angle on Brazil’s interest in free software is the involvement of the pop-star Minister of Culture, Gilberto Gil. In fact, he calls the use of free software a form of digitalização tropical (tropical digitalisation), in analogy to his own tropicalismo music, which blended Brazilian roots with modern stuff from abroad. He attended the workshop on free software and government in Brasilia in the summer.
